Space is a central element in my electroacoustic compositions. Using available technology, I explore ways to create the illusion of experienced, imagined, and ever-changing sound spaces through loudspeakers.
Zwei Räume is built on multiple dualities. One of the most striking is the contrast between direct sound sources—played through speakers close to the audience—and their reflections and reverberations, projected from more distant speakers. Other contrasts also shaped the composition: solo voices with clear movement patterns interact with expansive orchestral textures that fill the entire hall; variations in density, pitch space, and temporal proportions unfold through opposing forces.
The spatial experience extends beyond the physical boundaries of the concert hall, while the inner space gains an intense presence, allowing individual sound objects to emerge with clarity. Zwei Räume was composed for the wave field synthesis system at the Technical University of Berlin and the GRM Acousmonium, as presented at the Inventionen Festival 2008.
