Entwurzelt searches for meaningful expressions in a language we don’t know and reflects my interest in drama. The tight relationship between the live passages and the electronics creates a sound world, drawing us curiously into the discovery of its sense. The composition is not based on an existing text, rather an invented dialogue with hints to different idioms. The electronics are used to extend the vocal expressions of the live singers, to build harmony and complex sound textures, but they also serve at times as an element of surprise.

Electronics

This composition utilizes a Max/MSP patch for the playback of pre-recorded sounds.
One of the singers controls a MIDI foot pedal to trigger the electronic sequences.
Two speakers are placed in front of the singers.
To optimize the stereo image, they should be slightly angled outward, depending on the acoustics of the hall.

No microphones or additional loudspeakers are required in the concert hall.

The floor speakers should be angled at approximately 45 degrees, directing the sound away from the audience so that it first reflects off surfaces in the hall. This allows the electronic sounds to blend more naturally with the singers' voices. The setup should avoid the impression that the sound originates directly from the speakers, instead achieving a high degree of sonic fusion between the live voices and the playback.
