hommage à Schwitters

interactive sound sculpture
Year: 2012
Date of first performance: December 18, 2012
Place: Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Sert Gallery Café

At 16, discovering Kurt Schwitters' Sonate in Urlauten opened a door into Dada and other forms of sound poetry. I performed the piece many times, and its fascination has only grown over the years. The homage to Schwitters invites playful interaction with the poem while evoking associations with ready-mades and Luigi Russolo’s noise makers. Sensors on all four sides of the sculpture detect a visitor’s presence and trigger different sonic actions.
