Françoise Rivalland

Francoise Rivalland

I met Françoise in 1995 in Paris. We soon started improvising, at times as a trio with Rose Heggen on double bass. I have always been fond of her very special humor and her worldview. In 2005, she took over the staging of my music theatre piece Die Süße unserer traurigen Kindheit at the Forum Neues Musiktheater of the Stuttgart Opera. She also performed several times with the Ensemble für Intuitive Musik.

percussion, cimbalom, electroacoustic creation and composition

She discovered the music of Edgar Varèse, Bach, Pierre Boulez, Yoshihisa Taïra, Georges Aperghis, Karlheinz Stockhausen, and György Kurtág at the age of 10… and she became a percussionist.
Ten years later, driven by her passion for chamber music, she founded S:i.c, where she served as artistic director until 2008. For many years, she contributed to the creation of numerous productions by Georges Aperghis, staging works by Beckett, Cage, Daumal, Globokar, Kagel, and Schnebel.

Alongside her work as a performer, she taught for ten years in the Master of Composition & Theory – Musical Theater program at the Bern University of the Arts. She is currently a professor of contemporary vocal performance at DSJC/CRR Paris.

Today, she continues her artistic journey with the cimbalom, the zarb, and her voice, collaborating with composers and exploring improvisation. For several years, she has been creating sound works and electroacoustic compositions for concerts, performances, and exhibitions.
