hommage à Schwitters
interactive sound sculpture year: 2012
first presentation: December 06, 2012
, Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts, Sert Gallery Café
At age 16, when I first discovered Kurt Schwitters' Sonate in Urlauten, a door into DADA and other forms of sound poetry opened. I performed the piece many times and it's fascination did not fade in all those years. The hommage à Schwitters proposes a playful interaction with the poem, as well as associations to ready-mades and the noise makers of Luigi Russolo.Sensors on all four sides of the sculpture detect the presence of a visitor and trigger different sounding actions.
