Spaces: high pressure is the first part of a new cycle of works.
Improvised sound sequences using objects on a large frame drum explore the interaction between gestural energy and tonal richness. In dialogue with recorded voices and instruments, layers of great intensity emerge, moving, converging, mutually reinforcing, and dissolving within the multi-channel sound space.
Composed during the COVID lockdown, the piece captures the profound experience of isolation, psychological strain, and solitude, encapsulating the tension and fragility of that moment in time.

Encoded Ambisonics Version (5th Order)
You can either import the 36-channel encoded file into your existing ambisonics playback system or use the provided Reaper session. To do this, download and install the free IEM Ambisonics VST tools. The Reaper session requires the IEM AllRaDecoder plugin.
Set the ambisonics order to match your speaker setup and enter your speaker coordinates in the plugin. The following example uses 5th order ambisonics with 24 speakers. Technically, ambisonics theory says that 24 speakers can only support up to 4th order accurately. However, in my experience, the spatial detail sounds better with 5th order. I've often chosen an ambisonics order one level higher than what the speaker count would normally allow.
