Since 2012, I have had multiple work periods with the French cellist Séverine Ballon, who immediately inspired me with her sensitivity to sound and her curious experimentation.

pressure-divided is the result of our meetings, during which we improvised, recorded a rich spectrum of sounds, and explored the relationships between instrumental gestures and live electronics.

The work expresses shifting mental states that arise under pressure and various influences while striving to pursue our own ideas and goals. The desire to perceive a clear, manageable structure is repeatedly interrupted by contrasting elements. In the second half of the piece, a fragile pursuit of simpler musical phrases and longer time spans emerges.

The title also refers to the opposing protagonists—instrument and electronics—as well as the formal structure of the composition.
