résorption-coupure blends synthetic sounds generated through physical modeling with field recordings from various Asian cultures. The synthetic sounds were created using the Genesis/ACROE program, which simulates the physical behavior of vibrating objects while extending their natural limitations. This allowed me to design virtual objects that could not exist in the physical world.
The composition explores two contrasting temporal aspects: continuity and interruption. Over the course of the piece, the act of cutting itself becomes a continuous process. The Asian recordings were not used for their anecdotal or cultural references; rather, I was interested in their spatial and energetic qualities in relation to the synthetic sounds.
The synthetic sounds were developed during a workshop on physical modeling at ZKM Karlsruhe, while the final composition was composed at the Klang Projekte studio in Weimar.
