moments before the eruption

Imagine the tense anticipation of an imminent event—its exact timing and nature remain unknown. We circle restlessly, search for an escape, or find ourselves captivated by the allure of the expected surprise. Shifting moments of tension follow one another: have we been spared this time? Was that brief tremor the peak, or is something greater still to come?
Whether envisioning the eruption of a volcano or the emotional outburst of a person, the time leading up to it seems to stretch endlessly—every detail heightened, every moment charged with awareness.

Performance details

Electronics

The sound events are programmed within a Max/MSP patch and structured as individual cues, which the conductor triggers at designated moments in the score using a foot pedal.
There is no click track; instead, the musicians follow the score while maintaining a degree of interpretative flexibility. The electronics are realigned to them at the beginning of each event, ensuring a natural integration between the live performance and the electronic elements.

The electronics are best played through two loudspeakers placed under the piano, directed towards the sound board.
