Hans Tutschku was born in Weimar in 1966 into a family of musicians. His mother Monika played cello and viola da gamba, his father Jochen violin. The photograph shows him at eighteen months old—music was part of his everyday life from the very beginning.
His grandfather Walter Scheidig, an art historian and longtime director of the Weimar Art Collections, introduced him to the visual arts and the Bauhaus at an early age. From childhood, sounds and images were thus closely linked to the people who mattered to him.
His artistic curiosity continues to find expression across different media. These explorations inform one another: experiences with sound, images, and materials shape his approach to technology, whose possibilities in turn inspire creative ideas.
