Several of my works explore our multifaceted ability to access memories. The changes in our social and political reality in recent years have heightened our awareness of cherished memories and the present moment.
Codification – memory examines this subject from two opposing sources and viewpoints. One is Rainer Maria Rilke’s 1904 poem Abend, a lost jewel in our collective memory. We attempt to access it once more, to decode its message anew. The poem represents a time distant from our present life. In contrast, my own 2016 text ME stands on the other side. Its sharp and minimalist language leaves room for interpretation but ultimately calls us back to the here and now.
