Two images form the starting point of Migration pétrée: swarming stones and birds confined in cages. Both metaphors serve as models for the development of energy and intensity. Due to strong sonic transformations, however, the original sounds of stones and birds remain recognizable only in a few places.
We encounter the energy of the stones—on the beach under the weight of footsteps, from the fine trickling of small pebbles in the hand to the force of crashing boulders. Some stones have "strayed" into the interior of a piano, where they produce sounds that serve as the harmonic foundation of the composition.
These stony energies meet the sounds of thousands of birds, lingering in their cages on the marketplace of Porto. Their vibrant expression stands in stark contrast to their confinement: they rise only with difficulty and intertwine with groups of stones that glide along with bird-like lightness.
